St. Laurence O’Toole’s AC’s Molly Scott reclaimed the Irish record in the 60-meter event at the Irish Life Health National Senior Indoor Championships in February, running the distance in 7.19 seconds. Scott is expected to make waves at the World Indoor Championships.

After winning the Irish life Health National Senior Indoor Championships, Phil Healy (Bandon AC) emerged as a major player in the Irish indoor season. Healy then ran a personal best of 51.66 seconds in the 400-meter event at last week’s World Indoor Tour stop in Madrid (2nd March).
Finn Valley AC’s Mark English competes in the 800 metres and the men’s 4×400 relay. Throughout the 2022 season, the Finn Valley Star has consistently delivered great performances, starting with a sixth-place finish at the World Athletics Indoor Tour in Poland and culminating with a win at the Irish Life Health National Senior Indoor Championships.
After an extraordinary performance at the Irish Life Health National Senior Indoor Championships, when the 19-year-old Israel Olatunde (UCD AC) set a new personal best in the 60 metres and came within 0.01 seconds of the National Senior record, he will compete in this event.
Sarah Healy (UCD AC) will compete in the 1500m at the World Indoor Championships, where she will aim for the final or better. The 21-year-old had a phenomenal indoor season, setting a new U23 Record in February with a time of 4:06.95. This makes her the second-fastest Irish woman of all time, behind only Ciara Mageean.
Paul McNamara, director of high performance, offered some thoughts on the choice:
We have chosen eleven individual athletes and two relay teams, all of whom will be striving for a final and new national record. In 2016, Ireland sent one participant to the World Indoor Championships, and in 2018, we sent five.
These numbers demonstrate the steadily improving state of indoor athletics in Ireland, which augurs well for the sport’s long-term prospects; the team is prepared to make its mark on the international stage in Belgrade.
