With her mother and coach, Yukiko, by her side, the 21-year-old is in discomfort but otherwise stable. On Thursday, more testing will be performed on Hatakeda.

Witnesses said Hatakeda slammed her chin hard on the floor after falling face first while attempting a Komova (a transition move from low bar to high bar on the uneven bars). A medical team used a spineboard to transport her from the scene to the hospital.

Women’s Gymnastics Olympic Trials 2021 Injury: Simone Biles

Simone Biles, the reigning Olympic gymnastics champion and a global sports icon, has withdrawn from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after injuring herself in the vault competition.
On Tuesday, the 24-year-old, who is largely regarded as the best gymnast of all time, attempted only one vault before retreating to a trainer’s arms.

After leaving the arena with the team doctor to have her right leg wrapped, she came back a few minutes later.

After embracing Grace McCallum, Sunisa Lee, and Jordan Chiles, she took off her bar grips and changed into a sweatshirt and sweatpants.
Later, gymnastics’ governing body the FIG stated on Twitter that Simone Biles would be sitting out the rest of the women’s team final since she had already performed one routine.
